The National Law Enforcement Academy Resource Network (NLEARN) is a free resource for America's police and sheriffs, academy directors, managers, coordinators and trainers.
NLEARN was proposed and established by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) and was originally funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) of the U.S. Department of Justice. When the term of that grant expired, funding was picked up by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The mission of NLEARN is to provide a national forum for the sharing of ideas, methods, materials and best practices among the over 700 U.S. training academies identified by the National Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
NLEARN was also conceived to provide a continuing conduit for communication with those federal agencies cooperating with local law enforcement. Our Academy Network reflects the need for improved cooperation and mutual support among agencies in an age of national and multijurisdictional threats to public safety.
NLEARN belongs to its members. Its success is only due to the involvement and participation of its registered user base. It is our goal to continually increase our membership of professional academy personnel and improve the services we offer. It is our pledge to provide the highest quality content, technical and user services, on par with the important mission of law enforcement training.
